Sammie - Natural Light Portraits

Updated: Jun 4, 2021

June 2020. This was my fifth shoot with Sammie, and she was keen to shoot with her new 50s dresses, which she loves. I was racking my brains to think of a suitable 50s themed location, and as we were in lockdown, drew a blank with this, so I chose Mincinglake Park in Exeter, Devon, which we could easily get to and socially distance.

We started with portrait photography using her black and white 50s dress and petticoat, using the soft, natural light of the early evening. If you look closely this has skulls in the design, which is very Sammy.

We moved on to her red 50s dress, and into the more woodland settings, still using natural light.

A quick change in the woods and we were shooting her pink unicorn dress. I was a little concerned about the colour combination but magenta and green here worked as opposites in the colour wheel.

Just as the sun was setting Sammie changed into her exercise kit. I wasn't really sure about this, but went with the flow of the shoot, and Sammie convinced me that this was a good choice when she posed in the grass as the sun was setting.

In the end Sammie added a bit of raunch just as the sun was setting and we shot against it to get the wonderful warm glow of the natural light of its final rays.

This is an example of the sort of photographs I take for Portrait Photography and Natural Light Portraits. I shoot portraits of all types throughout Devon especially the Exeter, Plymouth and Torbay areas and am based in Newton Abbot. Click on the links for more details.
